On June 19th, Governor Strickland of Ohio began trying to rush through a bill by the end of June which will cut library
funding a whopping 52% all across the state!!!!
As far as I understand, the bill would go into effect immediately ~ July 1st. Library managers had not heard
anything about this slick move until it was actually introduced. And this is on top of the approximate 20% which is already being cut. In our system alone,
almost every branch would have to be closed. Any that were left open would have to go on greatly reduced hours. There would also be a huge cut in the items
that are ordered.
I know that most of you don't live in Ohio, but if you have a cell phone, would you please call 1-614-466-3555 and let him know
just how awful this is? So many people use the library for so many important activities: new business set-up classes, employment searches and tracking, home
schooling, classroom assignments, etc.
