Do you have a "love/hate" relationship with any author's work?
For example, have you read a book by an author and found it, while not phenomenal, at least intriguing enough to consider reading more by that same
author? And then, while you may not necessarily list this author as a favorite (and indeed, sometimes even annoying at times), will you read another,
and still another?
For me, those authors would have to be Lydia Davis and Richard Brautigan.
Lydia Davis writes some great short stories, and yet others leave me totally frustrated; her circular writing style can become so annoying to me. Any
short story collection of hers is a real mixed bag; I can love several, and absolutely hate others. I've read all of her published short story collections.
And as annoying as she can be to me at times, I know I'll be there at Borders buying whatever collection she publishes next.
Richard Brautigan: When he's good (was good, rather), he was very good. And when he was bad, bleeach! He could seem so amateurish and
self-indulgent and "clever" just for cleverness' sake. IMO, anyway. (I've now read three of his books/novellas, a book of his poems, and one
short story collection).
Anyone else have authors that you simultaneously - and repeatedly - "Love/Hate?"

I keep buying and reading the books. . . and then I skim.
