When comes the quiet of night
The death of a day is complete
In the stillness I wink back at stars
They assume names as though they are friends
I choose a star and wish for childish things
If I had red shoes I would click their heels
My innocence looms as big as the moon
And certainly it is as bright and life-giving
Wisdom and logic have no place in this vast stillness
Heady matters only interfere with ancient energies
Mutterings from the heart and spirit abide
That is how it must be in the depth of safe night
There are no thoughts of war and woe nor pain and grief
Noisy things give way to bat wings and moth dances
I think of you whom I love so dearly from so far away
Then I place my desires into stargazing whispers
